Fish for Wellness was inspired by the book, Graced by Waters, written by FfW founder John Dietsch. The book and FfW retreats explore our connection to the outdoors through the prism of fly fishing and investigate its transformative and healing power to inspire wellness.

We live in stressful times and wrestle with difficult questions about ourselves, others, and our communities. Fish for Wellness offers unconventional fly fishing trips and thematic retreats, with a different guest leader each outing, to help promote connection with ourselves and others while enjoying some of the world's most beautiful rivers and productive fisheries! For decades, therapeutic fly fishing retreats have been highly successful in giving people with challenges like PTSD, cancer, at-risk youth or addiction a means of dealing with stress. FFW borrows from these highly effective formats and offers a purposeful fly fishing experience as a means to reduce stress and foster peace of mind both on and off the river.... The difference is that our programs are for anyone willing to pick up a fly rod, a pen and a conversation that perhaps they were unwilling to have before stepping into the river (no one ever steps into a river twice)! Inspired by the book written by our founder, John Dietsch, called GRACED BY WATERS: Personal Essays on Fly Fishing and the Transformative Power of Nature, our trips and retreats are based on the philosophy that fly fishing on a river in pristine environments provides a unique capacity to be in the moment, giving us new insights for healing and self-improvement that will stick with us long after the journey. Our programs and trips are designed for any group or individual interested in developing mindful practices based on single-minded focus to help promote deep personal insight and wellbeing. We combine fly fishing, meditation, journaling, reflection and group sharing to investigate how our fly fishing experiences can provide us with the very lessons we need most: every river has something to tell us about ourselves.: Rhythmic fly casting promotes calm, the white noise of the river relieves stress, and staying laser-focused on the fly fosters awareness. In addition to offering planned retreats for the general public and specific groups, we also work with individuals, businesses and organizations to build customized fly fishing programs (e.g. for conferences and events) to target specific needs.
